The 2015 Vintage provided beautiful fruit. Because of a cool foggy spring we had very low crop yields. This resulted in especially concentrated fruit from the steep hillsides in Bennett Valley. We harvested our 2015 Merlot on September 13th, which, was even earlier than 2014. The volcanic hillsides that are the source for our Merlot produce very small berries that have tremendous intensity and structure. Farming at the highest level, picking for balance, and making the wine with minimal intervention all contribute to what we believe is one of the top Merlot wines made in California.
The 2016 Flanagan Bennett Valley Merlot has beautiful aromatic notes of bergamot, black raspberry, and bay leaf. The palate has ripe red currants and black plum with lots of structure. The acidity provides beautiful delineation and tension in the mouth. The small berries produced from the steep, volcanic hillside site gives the wine great color and concentration. This is a generous, age worthy, world-class Merlot.
The 2017 Herson Family Vineyards "Access" Merlot has a dense purple color that is followed by aromas of black cherries, black currants and chocolate. It is a rich, full-bodied wine that is balanced, complex, distinctive, and connected to its Napa Valley terroir. This wine will age well over the next decade. No technological gimmicks or additives were used in making this wine. It was crafted by one of Napa Valley’s iconic winemakers who puts his trust in his instinct and palate when creating wines that are among Napa Valley’s finest.
