The 2018 vintage is immediately recognizable for its palate coating texture - a familiar trademark of Ancien's Carneros Pinot Noir. In its youth is skews more to the spicy end of the spectrum with currants, orange spice and cocoa. The darker cherry and wild berry notes open with time in the glass and charactistic notes of anise. Subtle earth notes, hummus and truffles add interest as well as exotic hibiscus nuances. The wine finishes long and savory inviting the next sip. A versatile wine to pair at the table or to enjoy alone for its opulent andapproachable fruit.
Delightful aromatics are enhanced by a refreshingly mineral mouthfeel and lingering finish. A mélange of Asian pear and summer nectarine greet the nose, followed by subtler notes of fragrant white flowers, fresh Granny Smith apples, and tangerine zest. On the palate, citrus-kissed stone fruit complements star fruit and green apple leading to a lingering finish of peach and grapefruit. Pair this with grilled meats, seafood, pastas with olive oil or cream sauces, Asian cuisine...the combination of its rich mid-palate, smooth tannins, and acidic structure make this wine unusually versatile at the table.

The palate is opulent, plush and structured with integrated sweet tannins showcasing notes of dark blackberry, black cherry, and bittersweet chocolate dance through an everlasting and strong finish.
This powerful, dense, concentrated effort needs bottle age but is an incredibly impressive 2017. Giving up lots of chocolaty dark fruits, violets, Asian spices, and loamy soils , it has a big, mouth filling mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Try to hide the bottle for 4-5 years, but it should evolve for two decades.

As the foundation of the Ellman line-up with an intense garnet hue, it overdelivers with notes of cassis, cigar box and Chinese Five Spice—replete with hints of fennel, whole black peppercorns, star anise, cloves and cinnamon. Walking the tightrope of finesse with extreme power, the palate gives way to generous flavors of blackberry, cassis, cola and nuanced notes of musk, porcini and hibiscus, which interplay with the stately framework. Focusing solely on the Ellman Estate vineyard, the perennial elegance of Jemma reigns supreme in the 2018 vintage. Copious aromatics of freshly picked violets, cassis and black cherries emanate from the glass, with a soupçon of espresso, sassafras and dry-aged salumi. Effusive on the palate, it has a lush profile of a myriad of bramble fruits, like a billowing whiff from jostling a crate of blackberries, coupled with hints of cardamom, allspice and cacao. Aptly paired with a classic Beef Wellington or maitakes on the grill
This 2018 Bacigalupi Chardonnay has a nose of citrus and peach blossoms. The palate opens with fresh White peach and Meyer lemon with brioche toast on the finish. We aged the wine in Boutes cooperage for 11 months with 40% new barrels. Bacigalupi probably has the most classic Russian River profile of all Flanagan's Chardonnays. They believe in letting each site express itself. That means that each of their wines has a barrel program and wine chemistry unique to that vineyard site in a given vintage. This is terrific wine from one of Sonoma County’s top Chardonnay sites and will age gracefully for many years.
The 2018 Flanagan Merlot Bennett Valley has compelling aromatic notes of Bay Leaf, Pepper, Cedar, and Saffron. The palate has Red Currant, Black Cherry, Bergomot, and Black Tea with a very elegant tannin structure. The acidity provides great balance. The small berries produced from the steep, volcanic hillside site give the wine great color and concentration. This is an elegant, age worthy, world class Merlot.
The spring of 2018 was an exceptionally wet one with 20 days of rain in just the month of May. This helped limit fruit set and meant that the 2018 crop was much smaller than the massive 2017 Harvest.
After the very rainy spring things settled down, and the rest of the growing season was ideal. The lack of late season rains or heat spikes meant that we were able to harvest without any drama. The fruit quality in 2018 was excellent.
