Brighter notes of lime and Meyer lemon match the refreshing acidity of this wine, balanced by a creamy palate and leading to a finish that will continue to lengthen in the coming months. Harvest timing was essential, allowing for full flavor development, acid balance, and optimum ripeness. Once the desired flavors were at their peak, the fruit was hand harvested in the early cold morning and gently whole cluster pressed. The juice was then slowly fermented by both native and specially selected yeast in a combination of new and twice used French oak barrels and small stainless steel drums. Upon dryness, weekly barrel stirring of the lees commenced to increase the complexity of the aromas and mouthfeel. Only 35% of the secondary malolactic fermentation was allowed, thus giving the final wine’s profile a beautiful balance between richness, intense fruit and crisp acidity in the long finish as we desired.
The 2018 marks the tenth vintage of Buoncristiani Chardonnay, a wine that focuses primarily on fruit, minerality and balanced acidity, with secondary flavors of integrated new French oak richness framed by a full mid palate and a lingering finish.
The wine is aged in Atelier Centre France and Chassin cooperage for 14 months with 50% new barrels. The Platt site, like Grand Cru Chablis sites, is expressive of the vineyard terrior and reflective of a balanced barrel regime. Each site is allowed to express itself and that means that each of the wines has a unique barrel program and wine chemistry that reflect that particular site in a given vintage.

This wine displays the classic Ritchie Vineyard attributes of rich, lush texture with great acidity. The palate offers Bartlett pear notes and ripe citrus. The 2018 Herson Family Vineyards Influence Chardonnay is balanced, complex, and distinctively connected to its Carneros terroir. It is gently floral on the nose and has a silky texture, rich ripe fruit and compelling freshness on the palate. There are notes of ripe apricot, pink grapefruit and hints of lemon and lime peels. It has a long finish with delightful acidity balanced by ripe fruit. No technological gimmicks or additives were used making this wine. It was crafted by one of Napa Valley’s iconic winemakers who puts his trust in his instinct and pallet when creating wines that are among Napa Valley’s finest.
