This is a big case of small production wines! It's a perfect "bang for your buck," for wine drinking anytime, in all its new iterations. These are three tiny productions. The 2015 Tela Cabernet is made by Rolando Herrera, from Coombsville in Napa. The 2016 Buoncristiani “OPC” is made with grapes sourced from the Hyde, Stagecoach, Hossfeld and Bennett vineyards, and made by Jay Buoncristiani. The 2018 Vinoce St. Helena Cabernet (Yes, St. Helena!) from Brian Nuss.
Notes of ripe apple and honeydew melon greet and are delicately perfumed by notes of freesia and citrus blossom. Brighter notes of lime and Meyer lemon match the refreshing acidity of this wine, balanced by a creamy palate and leading to a finish that will continue to lengthen in the coming months. A wonderfully textured and vibrant Chardonnay displaying the best Carneros has to offer.
A lovely bouquet of roses and delicate earth intermix with notes of cocoa, berries, sandalwood, and toasted grains to invite your first sip. The fruit concentrates on the mid-palate, revealing subtle notes of earl grey tea. The elegantly luxurious character of this wine shines bright with acidity layered into a silky texture. It finishes with a light, understated grip, and expands to embrace every corner of the palate.
Delightful aromatics are enhanced by a refreshingly mineral mouthfeel and lingering finish. A mélange of Asian pear and summer nectarine greet the nose, followed by subtler notes of fragrant white flowers, fresh Granny Smith apples, and tangerine zest. On the palate, citrus-kissed stone fruit complements star fruit and green apple leading to a lingering finish of peach and grapefruit. Pair this with grilled meats, seafood, pastas with olive oil or cream sauces, Asian cuisine...the combination of its rich mid-palate, smooth tannins, and acidic structure make this wine unusually versatile at the table.
The O.P.C. is Buoncristiani’s Napa Valley proprietary red blend. In the quest to create a wine uniquely theirs, they discovered the synergy of marrying Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah, while also folding in further complexities of texture and flavor with Napa Malbec and Merlot blenders. Grapes are sourced from some of Napa’s most prestigious vineyards including Hyde, Stagecoach, Hossfeld and Bennett. Just like their winemaking fathers before them, with “Ol’ Pa’s Cuvée” the four brothers continue the family tradition of handcrafting blends that enhance the enjoyment of life.
PATEL 2013 Red Wine is a tribute to classic Right Bank Bordeaux-style red wines. Merlot and Petit Verdot make up the majority of the 2013 offering, which gives the wine its rich dark color, floral notes and polished tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon was added for structure and a velvety mouth-feel. Malbec adds dark fruit flavors and fills out the mid-palate.
Hawaiian native and Pono Proprietor David Sedeno created the 2018 Ali'i Carneros Blanc de Noir - and at the Tasting Room, WE'RE LOVING IT! Aromas of bright strawberries, wild raspberries, and cantaloupe with lively bubbles from the Thomson Vineyard on Los Carneros Rd. 132 cases made.
The nose opens to dark fruits of plum, black cherry, and cassis married with an earthy essence of mushroom. With time these will make way to notes of baking spices and cedar. The palate is full, with a generous mouthfeel, showcasing layers of plum, blueberry, blackberry, and toasted almonds, while spiced with cola, tobacco, and mint. The harmonizing acidity provides lift and a refreshing counterbalance to the chalky Coombsville tannins. This wine will retain its vibrancy as it ages, while developing deeper layers and expanding into a more velvety palate, and rewarding patience with a beautiful, earthy bouquet.
