The 2018 Flanagan Merlot Bennett Valley has compelling aromatic notes of Bay Leaf, Pepper, Cedar, and Saffron. The palate has Red Currant, Black Cherry, Bergomot, and Black Tea with a very elegant tannin structure. The acidity provides great balance. The small berries produced from the steep, volcanic hillside site give the wine great color and concentration. This is an elegant, age worthy, world class Merlot.
The spring of 2018 was an exceptionally wet one with 20 days of rain in just the month of May. This helped limit fruit set and meant that the 2018 crop was much smaller than the massive 2017 Harvest.
After the very rainy spring things settled down, and the rest of the growing season was ideal. The lack of late season rains or heat spikes meant that we were able to harvest without any drama. The fruit quality in 2018 was excellent.
The nose shows notes of Rangpur lime, jasmine, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine has Bosc pear and toasted almond. The wine has bright acidity and an elegant minerality. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels, using Atelier Centre France and Boutes cooperage for 11 months with 50% new barrels.
This is a stunning example of an AVA wine made from the top vineyards in Sonoma County.
The 2019 Flanagan Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast offers an expressive nose cherry blossom and clove spice. On the palate the wine has very fine tannins, great acidity, and displays flavors of Rainier cherry and orange peel. The Sonoma Coast cuvee has very nice fruit purity.
This wine consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petite Verdot blend. The dense, powerful fruit of the Cabernet is seamlessly balanced with the spice and earth tones from the Malbec and Petite Verdot, which is held together by the roundness of the Merlot. Aromas: blackberry, wildberry, tea, cinnamon and mocha Flavors: brambly huckleberry, black currant, blueberry, graphite, and vanilla. Pairing Suggestions: New York Strip loin and roasted rack of lamb with rosemary pair especially well with this wine.
This Cabernet is a true, dense, powerful hillside Cabernet. Steep hills with well-drained soils produced small, yet powerful grapes producing some of the more timeless Cabernets in the Valley. Aged for 22 months in 100% New French Oak barrels. Aroma: Blackcherry, violets, black tea, and white chocolate. Flavors: Dense Blackberry, blueberry, elderberry, caramel, and mint
The 2018 Herson Family Vineyards Access Merlot is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Calistoga. It’s aged 18 months in French Oak barrels, 30% new oak. It has a dense purple color and reveals notes of cocoa, chocolate, Asian plum sauce and black cherries. It is a sensual, layered and full-bodied wine that is balanced, complex, distinctive, and connected to its Napa Valley terroir. The wine will age well for a decade or more. No technological gimmicks were used making this wine. It was crafted by one of Napa Valley’s iconic winemakers who puts his trust in his instinct and palate when crafting wines that are among Napa Valley’s finest.
2016 was an extraordinarily epic vintage. It was the fifth consecutive outstanding vintage, and at the time of harvest, we thought it was the best of the decade. All of our fruit slowly matured and ripened, containing the proper phenolics that we strive to have every vintage. We had a decent winter, which meant that we had more irrigation water and more control of hang-time on the vines. With more hang time came more complexity and character, creating more balance in the vineyards. With a total production of 562 cases of the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, this elegant powerhouse all hails from highly-esteemed, volcanic Napa areas such as the Pritchard Hill area, Howell Mountain, Atlas Peak, and our very own Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard (35 feet below Howell Mountain). We’re honored that this wine recently won GOLD at Texsom (back-to-back years!), arguably the most prestigious wine competition in the country featuring 19 Master Sommeliers and 16 Masters of Wine on their judging panel.
In typical bold fashion, the 2017 Audere comes out guns blazing with lots of extract, some serious tannin, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. This blend hails from ultra-premium, volcanic Napa areas such as the Pritchard Hill area, Howell Mountain, Atlas Peak, and Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard (35 feet below Howell Mountain). It is an exuberant, rich wine with red cherries, oodles of black fruits, and coffee notes. Very reminiscent of the inaugural 2013 Audere, this is sure to please even the biggest Sideways-Loving, Merlot-Hater!
With only 239 cases produced, the 2017 Russian River Valley Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay may just be the best Chardonnay produced to date. Being the second Chardonnay vintage that Phillip Corallo-Titus worked on with Ralph, there’s more acidity and balance than in previous vintages. Robert Parker’s Erin Brooks described this vintage as having a “softly, savory character” and a “long, juicy finish”. Jeb Dunnuck mentions that this wine reminds him of an old Meursault: “it’s full-bodied, ripe, and opulent, yet has good acidity.” This is a delicious wine that showcases more sophisticated restraint than previous vintages while carrying the typical elegant style you’ve grown to love. Be sure to chill it down until the lions change color, and then you’ll know you’re at the proper serving temperature!
The 2017 Signature Mountain Blend is once again a delectable representation of what our Estate Rockwell Ridge Vineyard (blended with Howell Mountain, Pritchard Hill, & Atlas Peak fruit) can produce, making this wine very near and dear to our hearts. This limited case produced wine holds its own on the Hertelendy line up. Claimed by the critics as a “beautiful wine that “...explodes from the glass”. It’s the closest wine in our program that could be called an “Estate wine” with most of the blend coming from our very own Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard located 35 feet below the Howell Mountain AVA. Dubbed by many over the years as “The Petrus of Napa Valley”, we are thrilled to get this wine from our Estate to yours.
A beautiful expression of its terroir, this wine is earthy--like a warm summer day atop Pritchard Hill. Notes of dark chocolate, clove and baking spices, rise from the glass. Fennel and black spices can also be noticed. The struggle of the mountain vines throughout the growing season yields a rewarding long finish.
