Though we have sourced fruit in the past for the Jemma and Brothers Blend, 2014 marks our first vineyard designate bottling from Beckstoffer Georges 111. This 300-acre parcel, located in Rutherford, was first purchased by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour in 1928 and called Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3. It was home to BV’s Rutherford Cabernets made by the renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. These wines achieved wide acclaim in the 1960’s and 70’s, establishing BV’s pre-eminence in the making of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1988, the vineyard has since been replanted using new Cabernet Sauvignon clones with tighter spacing and advanced trellising systems, enhancing both quality and grape tonnage.
Lovely deep crimson-ruby color, with an intense bouquet of violet and cassis laced with wisps of herbal aromas like a breeze blowing across hills of lavender and thyme. Creamy on the palate with a bit of oak and caramel to back up the black fruit, plum and anise. Crisp acidity gives the wine real dimension and length on the palate with very ripe and subtle tannins and sweet cherry fruit on the extremely long finish.
