While 2012 was thought to be an almost perfect vintage, the lack of rain over the next four years produced increasingly intense flavors and structure due to the struggle of the surviving grapes. The 2013 Shadowbox Annapurna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a prime example of this spectacular vintage. While the Annapurna vineyard has has been the source of the majority of grapes in the Shadowbox Cabernet wine in previous vintages, the 2013 fruit was too spectacular not to focus on a single vineyard wine.

We crafted 75 superb cases of this single vineyard Pinot Noir from the low yielding Anne Katherina Vineyard in Sonoma's Carneros region. Aging for 16 months in 45% new French oak barrels gives this Pinot strong, yet lovely, aromas of roses and violets, as well as a gorgeous dark ruby/garnet color. Flavors of white truffles and Hen-of-the-Woods mushrooms give way to traces of forest floor that take you to a lingering finish. We love this wine with an elegant salmon dish, but it can also stand up to a rib-eye. If you seek terroir from your wine, here it is, and will stay for better than ten years.

This blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah shows a vibrant intensity of aromatic blueberry, dark cherry, and soft oak. Sweet fruits coat the upper palate and roll back to reveal black fruits and exotic spices structured in a balance of mouthwatering acidity and bold tannins. Dry mocha and a hint of toasted coconut linger on the palate after each sip.

The Napa Valley Pinot Noir in this Provençal style dry wine is chosen specifically for this Rosé to make a direct press style, allowing for higher, brighter acids and lower alcohol. The juice's only skin contact is limited to just in the press, lasting only moments, producing a delicate salmon-pink color followed by a controlled fermentation in stainless steel and 7 months aging in neutral oak, adding to weight and complexity.
