A bold Pinot Noir with notes of fruit and exotic spice, this wine is enjoyable to drink now with plenty of life to give for years down the line. The nose greets with notes of watermelon, wet slate, and cassis. Fresh dark fruits lead the palate, and the focus settles on ripe flavors of blackberry and currants spiced with peppercorn. Velvety and softly chewy tannins emphasize structure, while ever-present acidity balances and brightens. The spicy aromatics and flavors continue through the long finish.

Delightful aromatics are enhanced by a refreshingly mineral mouthfeel and lingering finish. A mélange of Asian pear and summer nectarine greet the nose, followed by subtler notes of fragrant white flowers, fresh Granny Smith apples, and tangerine zest. Expect to find deep aromas of cassis, black cherry, incense, dark chocolate, caramelized oak, toffee, and the Buoncristiani signatures of balance, depth on the mid palate, and a lengthy persistent finish. Precise amounts of Malbec and Petite Verdot were carefully folded into the final blend to add complexity and depth to the profile. Twenty months aging in 85% new French oak barrels rounded out the palate even further, while adding more texture, aroma and flavor.

Harvest timing was essential, allowing for full flavor development, acid balance, and optimum ripeness. Once the desired flavors were at their peak, the fruit was hand harvested in the early cold morning and gently whole cluster pressed. The juice was then slowly fermented by both native and specially selected yeast in a combination of new and twice used French oak barrels and small stainless steel drums. Upon dryness, weekly barrel stirring of the lees commenced to increase the complexity of the aromas and mouthfeel. Only 35% of the secondary malolactic fermentation was allowed, thus giving the final wine’s profile a beautiful balance between richness, intense fruit and crisp acidity in the long finish as we desired.

The nose displays a very pretty ripe Ruby Red grapefruit and that follows through in the palate. The acidity is crisp but not overwhelming. The wine has a great mouth feel and nice balance. This is a lovely Sauvignon Blanc and a nice example of what the grape can do in California when it is well farmed, not over-ripe, and made in a balanced way

The wine has bright acidity and an elegant minerality. This is a stunning example of an AVA wine made from the top vineyards in Sonoma County.

The 2017 Flanagan Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast displays a black fruit profile, characteristic of the sites used for the cuvee. The nose is dominated by pomegranate, Bing cherry, and red raspberry with hints of clove, nutmeg and orange blossom. These notes continue on the palate. The wine is very pretty, nicely focused, and finishes with good acidity. The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir engenders a fun debate about whether blending wines from several great sites can produce a wine as, or even more, compelling than a wine from a single vineyard.
